Short Sermon #60: DEATH & BEREAVEMENT - Message of hope after losing a loved one

The death of a loved one is always a tragic incident  to the family. The sorrow normally is so powerful that it casts a dense and dark shadow over the bereaved. Time appears to freeze. Nothing seems to matter anymore. It is a time of mourning - an episode that none of us can get accustomed to no matter how many times one might have experienced death in the family. Help is desperately and urgently required if those affected are to quickly find the strength to cope with their loss. This sermon attempts to offer hope and comfort to the grieving. I hope you will find encouragement after you are done reading it. You may understand, from past experiences, the message that I am trying to convey here. The distress and emptiness caused by the death of a family member or any other loved one are normally very difficult to imagine and absorb; sometimes the loss comes suddenly, and thus totally unexpected.    It is hard to cope with the death of a mother, father, sister, bro...

Short Sermon #58: ARE YOU A CHRISTIAN STRUGGLING WITH TEMPTATION? - 15 minute sermons and devotions

Have you ever been tempted? If so, who do you think  tempted you - God, Satan, or both?   Do you know how to effectively  deal  with  temptation ? According to  Wikipedia ,  temptation  is  "the state of being attracted and enticed  without anything to do with moral, ethical, or ideological valuation ." [Emphasis added]. It is therefore clear that God will never tempt you; He may of course test you. I have come to this conclusion because temptation has nothing 'to do with moral, ethical, or ideological valuation .' If it has nothing to do with  moral, ethical or ideological valuation, then it has nothing to do with God. With reference to the  temptation  of Jesus, the Bible clearly states that Jesus was "tempted by Satan"   (see Mark 1Verse 3 NIV).  So, " When  tempted , no one should say, 'God is tempting me.' For God cannot be  tempted  by evil, nor does he tempt anyone." - James 1:...

Short Sermon #57: MAXIMIZING DIVINE OPPORTUNITY - Inspirational Christian blogs for youth

Life is full of opportunities; there is quite a range of them.  Do not restrict yourself when you think of opportunities. There are opportunities to make money (this is a hot topic with a lot of people), to lend a hand, to apply wisdom, to demonstrate the soundness of your conduct, etc. “Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity” (Ephesians 5 Verse 15). Do not let any good opportunity pass you by. Neither should you just take advantage of a good opportunity; instead, you must make the most of it . That is what Paul encouraged the Ephesians to do. Do not be afraid of opportunities that might present themselves before you. You should never entertain the thought that it could be a mission impossible. Instead, you should exercise ever-increasing faith. You have every right to boast in the Lord. Strengthen yourself as follows: “I can do everything through him who gives me strength"( Philippians 4:13). ...

Short Sermon #56: WALKING IN HUMILITY - Christian articles on humility

“ God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”  - James 4:6 (NIV) We should take our lessons on humility from our Lord Jesus Christ.  Here is what the Bible says about Him: “ Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant.” - Philippians 2 Verses 5–7 (NIV).  Many ask, "What is the definition or meaning of humility in the Bible?" Some refer to it as the biblical definition of humility. Unfortunately, the Bible does not give a definition of humility but through reading it, one can be able to distill its meaning. A humble person is characterized, first and foremost, by the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 22:4 NIV). One cannot be humble and at the same time fail to acknowledge the Creator. Disobedience on the part of the Christian could also be classified as the absence of humility. A humble person r...

Short Sermon #55: CHRISTIAN VISION & FOCUS - Inspirational devotions of the day

You need a clearly defined vision in life, one etched in the perfect will and purpose of God for your life. Once you are clear about your vision, and its nobleness, this is what you ought to do: “Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you” (Proverbs 4 Verse 25). Never allow anything or anybody to block or sidetrack you. If you do not have a vision, then you have nothing to look forward to, hence nothing to live for. In that case, today will be your tomorrow. Short Sermon #54: THE IMPORTANCE OF FORGIVENESS - Great Christian blogs for women

"What are the benefits of forgiveness? Are there any advantages at all in forgiving?" you may be wondering. Indeed, forgiveness holds benefits or advantages for both the offender and the offended. The one who forgives benefits, and so does the one who is forgiven. Look at this: " Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered." - Romans 4 Verse 7 (NIV) By God's forgiveness through our Lord Jesus Christ, we became His blessed children; we passed from death to life . God forgave us to give us life. So, whenever you forgive somebody, you bless them; you give them life, so to say. Forgiveness is a blessing . A blessing is for sharing. Remember, you were born to be a blessing to those within your sphere of contact. When you forgive somebody, you set them free, you remove shackles from their hands and ankles, you take away the yoke from their shoulders, and you enable them to breathe well. You do the same to yourself; you open the prison...

Short Sermon #53: FORGIVENESS IN THE BIBLE - Short powerful bible sermons

“Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” - Colossians 3 Verse 13 (NIV) Forgive whatever grievances. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Whatever the grievances, and whatever the circumstances, God expects you to forgive the offender. Whether the offender offended you deliberately or by accident, God expects you to forgive them. Whether the offender hurt you once or continually hurts you, you have to forgive them. Please note that this does not mean that you let yourself be abused; you can forgive them and take any appropriate measures to protect yourself, especially from physical and psychological harm. Whether the offender is sorry about the hurt they caused you, or not, you still need to forgive them. It's always important to recognize that forgiveness is probably more about you than it is about them. That's why the Bible's teachings or lessons on forgiveness seem jarring to some ears. Let...

Short Sermon #52: THE CHRISTIAN LIFE TODAY - Short inspirational Christian articles

"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord,  continue to live in him,  rooted  and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught,  and overflowing with thankfulness." - Colossians 2 Verses 6-7 (NIV) This surely is the height of Christian encouragement ! Paul's exhortation is that you may continue to live in Christ, in the Christian faith . Every Christian believer faces a very high risk of abandoning the faith, due to  various  challenges of life.  Many have already shipwrecked their faith. But on this day, Paul urges you to continue to live in Christ, no matter the  circumstances. I t means everything for one to hold on, in the manner Paul did. Paul also wishes that you may be rooted and  built  up in Christ.  If you imagine a tree without roots, you will understand what it means to be a person who is not rooted in Christ. A tree without the means to eat and drink dies; it cannot grow....
