Short Sermon #68: LET NO ONE LOOK DOWN UPON YOU BECAUSE OF YOUR YOUTH

Your age does not matter. How inspiring!

The word of the LORD came to me, saying, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." "Ah, Sovereign LORD," I said, "I do not know how to speak; I am only a child." But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am only a child.' You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you." - Jeremiah 1 Verses 4-7 (NIV)

That's the word of the LORD, directed at you; yes, YOU.

The LORD says, "Your age matters not to me. You've to do whatever I send you to accomplish. You may be young, you may not be popular with people, people may be looking down on you on account of your youth, but if I have chosen you, you've to immediately embark on my assignments without hesitation."

Jeremiah said, "I am only a child." The LORD replied, "Do not say, 'I am only a child." In other words, the LORD was saying, "The ability comes from me, not you." Indeed!

Here is what the LORD told Timothy at one point: "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity." - 1 Timothy 4:12 (NIV)

You may be running away from your responsibilities because you think you are only a child. You may be conducting your life in a certain manner because you believe you are still, or only, a child.

The LORD is encouraging you right now. He is saying, "Do not act like a child anymore! Do not continue to say, 'I am only a child.' It's time for you to arise, for my glory! Set an example to all - your fellow youth (teens), adults, and even to senior citizens!"

Won't you heed His exhortation? Think about it.

Philip found Nathanael and told him, “ We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote - Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. ” “ Nazareth! Can anything good come from there? ” Nathanael asked. “ Come and see. ” said Philip. John 1 Verses 45-46 [NIV] Nazareth was a despised town. That is why Nathanael was taken by surprise that Jesus could have come from there. Nazareth was regarded as a desert, where nothing useful was expected to grow. I remember the time when I was still a teenager. I kept grudges; real grudges, I mean. I did not know how to forgive; neither did I have the willingness to do so. "He (John) himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light." John 1 Verse 8 [NIV] I think we are in some kind of problem as the body of Christ. The problem, in my view, is that an increasing numbe r of men and women, even teens and senior citizens are, whether by word or deed, trying to take the place of Christ. Haven't you ever come across church denominations in which congregants seem to, or actually, worship the leader? That's idolatry! The congregants appear not to acknowledge Christ, and by their actions, neither do they seem to have anything to do with Him.
