Short Sermon #90: RAISE THE BAR HIGHER - Short inspirational Christian stories

I remember it well; I can visualize it  clearly .  But back then, I thought it was just a game that children played. Little did I know that it carried important life lessons, to both the Christian and non-Christian. There was this game that we used to play while herding cattle and goats down in Njanja, Zimbabwe. I was about nine years old then and had two friends, both roughly my age. We would agree to play a game to entertain ourselves, because watching cattle and goats grazing was to us never an attractive undertaking. Our options included swimming in pools on the Mutorahuku stream, playing soccer, bull fighting and high jump. We often preferred high jump. We would cut three long sticks and find ourselves a sandy place, which normally was close to the Mutorahuku stream that cut through our village. We chose sandy places to protect ourselves from injury, for after jumping, one would need a soft landing, so to say. We would stick two sticks into the sand, about two metres a

ABOUT PHANUEL MUVERENGWI - Christian lifestyle blogs

Phanuel Muverengwi believed that there was no God, until he 'accidentally' attended a church service in Hatfield, Harare, in October of 1992. As Phanuel Muverengwi sat in church that Sunday, partly 'logged off' because attending church had not been his idea, something life-changing happened to him. Oh, the great grace of our good God! Since his salvation, Phanuel Muverengwi has traveled an impactful, biblical, and devotional Christian journey with his Lord, Jesus Christ. Short Sermon #89: PASSION FOR PEOPLE IN LIFE - Short devotional stories for adults

As I grew up, right from the time when I was just a little boy, I used to ask myself the question, “What should be my number one passion in this life?”  This was an important question for me because I seemed to lack real satisfaction in whatever I had accomplished. I struggled with this question for a long time, even when I became an adult. Whenever I thought of my passions or my potential passions, so many of them would come into my mind and I could not even arrange them in order of priority. So many adults could be struggling with the same problem. They just cannot identify that which would make their lives glorious, or worth living. So many are living lives devoid of passion, uninteresting lives, lives that are separated from the fire of life. What, in your view, should be your number one passion or preoccupation in this world? What would give you real satisfaction  in this life? Remember, before you identify your fire, your life will simply be a burden. I thank Go

Short Sermon #88: GIVE ALL THE GLORY TO GOD - Devotions for women, youth and men

“You may say to yourself, ‘My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.’ But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.” (Deut. 8  Verses  17-18, NIV). I have two kinds of Christians on my mind. The first kind is comprised of those who pray to God for a financial breakthrough. When they get the breakthrough, these people forsake God and immediately run into the wild, like warthogs, as if their breakthrough came from Satan. The second kind is comprised of Christians who, after receiving the breakthrough, go on to take the glory, disregarding the fact that they asked and were given. “What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?” (1 Cor 4:7, NIV). “Be very careful, then, how you live - not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, becaus

Short Sermon #87: DO NOT WORRY ABOUT ANYTHING OR ABOUT TOMORROW - Devotionals for today

This sermon is, at least as far as I am concerned, quite inspiring.  By the way, I never write anything unless I am convinced that it will benefit at least one person, and I hope that you will find the teaching contained in this sermon not only heart-touching, but also truly practical for everyday Christian living. I must say that I find it extremely amazing that a number of people choose to ignore very clear and valuable instructions, and these people obviously do so to their own disadvantage. I will start with a very clear instruction that Jesus Christ gave his disciples. It says,  “Therefore I tell you, do not worry…” (Matthew 6:25, NIV) . I love this. Clear. No ambiguity. No exceptions. “Do not worry,” Jesus instructed. Is this instruction flexible? No; it’s rigid. It says, “Do not.”  It does not say, "You may not ..." You are instructed never to worry, whatever your personal circumstances might be. You sure need to give yourself some time to reflect on this

Short Sermon #86: THE TONGUE HAS THE POWER OF LIFE AND DEATH - Devotions to share with a group

Never take lightly the power of your tongue, be it negative or positive. The tongue is a valuable piece of equipment, but only if deployed from the launchpad of wisdom. If deployed anyhow, the tongue always proves to be a chemical weapon that destroys not only its intended victims but its owner as well. So never discount the potential consequences of the fruits of your tongue. Consider this powerful statement:  “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit” (Proverbs 18:12, NIV). Look at this too:  “The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of [his] life on fire …” (James 3  Verse  6, NIV). The Bible contains lots of useful teaching on the subject. For a start, let’s focus on the following instructive verse:  “ My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak” (James 1:19, NIV). Many people live with painful regrets for the wo

Short Sermon #85: LOOK, THE LAMB OF GOD! - Inspiring devotionals for today

John is on my mind. I was reading the Book of John one day and it occurred to me that I should write a small sermon on just two verses that caught my attention. The first verse says,  “When [John] saw Jesus passing by, he said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God!’” (John 1  Verse  36, NIV). As I meditated on this verse, I noted two things. The first is that John was exceedingly excited about Jesus.  It appears to me that John actually did not 'say', but 'shouted', "Look, the Lamb of God!" On seeing Jesus, John acted like a kid who was seeing his father for the first time after a long period of separation. It's the kind of excitement that one would not be able to contain or hide. Then a thought came to me saying,  “This is how excited I should always be about my Lord.”  How true! You and I have to be this excited, always, daily. God expects this of His worshipers. He is never excited about people of low temperature. I also learnt another great lesson, i.e.,  if one i

Short Sermon #84: WALKING IN THE WILL OF GOD - Morning devotions for today

Listen to this:   “As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God” (1 Peter 4  Verses  1-2, NIV). I want you to relate to the verse above, so I rephrase it as follows:  “As a result, I do not live the rest of my earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.”  Glory to God! This must be your confession. This must be the daily experience of your life. What a lovely arrangement that would be! Living for the will of God, not for evil human desires! Do you identify with this kind of life? Salvation is the most spectacular of miracles. Through salvation, one instantly passes from the natural life into the Kingdom of God – a new, supernatural, creation. The disturbing thing though, is that some Christians think that salvation is both the beginning and the end. I do not see it that way. To me,  salvation is just the beginning , a new beginning. After saying the prayer of salvation, believing and confessi
